Just How Do You Make Hamburger Casserole?
Some questions in the universe currently have no known answers. Some questions
have only one answer (love that black and white stuff!). But then some questions have
lots of different answers. The question of how do you make hamburger casserole has as many
answers as there are people. It depends on what you like...what flavors you like thrown together
and how creative you feel like being. Below you will find five unusual hamburger casseroles. Enjoy!
Hamburger 'n' Corn Bake
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp bacon drippings or vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup onion, chopped
- 2 green peppers, sliced
- 1 lb ground round
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 cups fresh corn
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes
- 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
- butter
Directions
- 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- 2. Heat bacon drippings (oil) in a medium-sized skillet and saute onion and green
peppers until onion turns golden.
- 3. Add ground round, salt and pepper. Cook until meat is lightly browned, then drain.
- 4. Place 1/2 the corn in the bottom of a casserole dish, cover with 1/2 meat mixture and top with layer of
sliced tomatoes. Repeat layers and top with dry bread crumbs. Dot with butter. Bake 35 minutes.
Spinach-Hamburger Bake
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp bacon drippings or vegetable oil
- 1 lb ground round
- 1 pkg frozen spinach
- 1 can (about 10 1/2 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 4 oz Cheddar cheese, grated
- 3 tbsp dry bread crumbs
- 1 tbsp sweet butter
Directions
- 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- 2. Heat bacon drippings (oil) in a heavy skillet. Brown ground round lightly. Drain and
return to pan.
- 3. Add frozen spinach, cover and cook until it thaws. Break spinach apart with a fork and mix with meat.
- 4. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, soy sauce, pepper and about 5 tbsp grated cheese. Cook
until cheese melts.
- 5. Place contents of skillet in a greased 2 qt casserole dish. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
- 6. Melt butter in a small saucepan and toss bread crumbs lightly in butter. Sprinkle bread crumbs on top of casserole.
Bake 10 minutes or until cheese melts.
Beef with Almonds
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground round
- 1 can (about 10 3/4 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 beef flavor bouillon cube
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup celery, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1/2 cup white, uncooked rice
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/8 tsp oregano
- 1/2 cup toasted, slivered almonds
Directions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- 2. Cook ground round in skillet over low heat, breaking into small pieces, until meat
is lightly browned.
- 3. Stir in chicken soup, bouillon cube, water, celery, onion, rice, soy sauce and oregano.
Heat to boiling, crushing bouillon cube with a wooden spoon.
- 4. Pour contents of skillet into a 2 quart greased baking dish. Cover and bake 30 minutes.
Uncover, sprinkle almonds on top. Bake 15 minutes longer.
Chili-Cornbread Pie
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 1/2 lb ground round
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp basil
- 1 can (8 1/4 oz) tomatoes
- 1 can (8 1/2 oz) kidney beans
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 pkg (12 oz) cornbread mix
- 1 can (8 3/4 oz) cream-style corn
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 oz Cheddar cheese, grated
Directions
- 1. Heat oil in oven proof 10 inch skillet. Saute ground, onion, and garlic until brown. Drain.
Return to skillet.
- 2. Add chili powder, salt, oregano, basil, and undrained tomatoes. Mix. Cook over low heat, covered, 30 minutes.
Stir in undrained kidney beans and wine. Cook 10 minutes longer.
- 3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- 4. In a bowl, combine cornbread mix, corn, egg and milk. Stir just until cornbread
mix is moistened.
- 5. Spread cornbread mixture evenly over meat. Bake 25 minutes at 350. Let stand in skillet 2 minutes,
then invert onto a serving platter. Garnish with cheese.
Country Style Beef Pie
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1 lb ground round
- 1/4 cup onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp oregano
- 1/8 tsp freshly ground pepper
- 1 1/2 cups quick cooking rice
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup Cheddar Cheese, grated
- 1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- 1. In a large bowl, combine first 8 ingredients well. Pat mixture into
a greased 9-inch pie plate.
- 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- 3. In a mixing bowl, combine rice, tomato sauce, water, and 1/2 the cheese.
- 4. Place rice mixture in meat shell. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes.
- 5. Uncover, sprinkle with remaining cheese and bake 15 minutes longer.
